    BALLISTIC PANELS FAQ’S

What is a Ballistic Panel ?

A Ballistic Panel is a protective equipment that is commonly used in ballistic vests and body armor. It's function is to withstand and disperse the force of impact from projectiles like bullets or shrapnel.

Can a Ballistic Panel Stop Bullets ?

The advanced materials of a ballistic panel function to absorb and dissipate the kinetic energy when projectiles, like bullets, strike it, stopping the bullets from penetrating deeper. The ballistic panel's efficiency is influenced by the calibre and velocity of the incoming bullets as well as its design and manufacture.

    What are composite ballistic panels?

Composite ballistic panels are protective equipment made from a combination of various materials, such as layers of specialized fibres, ceramics, and resins. Enhanced ballistic resistance is what these panels are designed to offer.

How are composite ballistic panels different from traditional ballistic materials?

Due to their distinctive design, composite ballistic panels differ from traditional ballistic panels. Composite ballistic panels are made of various materials, such as fibres, ceramics, and resins, to improve their protective capabilities, in contrast to traditional ballistic panels, which may only have a single layer.

What materials are typically used to manufacture composite ballistic panels?

Various materials, including specialised fibres like Kevlar® or Dyneema® known for their high tensile strength, are typically used to make composite ballistic panels. In addition, ceramics such as alumina or silicon carbide are used for their hardness and capacity to disperse impact energy. Additionally, resins are used to bind these components into a solid and reliable protective panel.

What level of protection do composite ballistic panels offer?

Our range of ballistic panels adhere to various protection levels as per the NIJ standard. This imparts them a robust structure and ensures their effective functioning in critical situations.

Where are composite ballistic panels commonly used?

Composite ballistic panels find application in military and law enforcement sectors, serving as body armor. They are also used in civilian situations for security staff, VIP protection, and occasionally for building and vehicle protection.

How thick are composite ballistic panels?

Depending on the desired level of protection, composite ballistic panels come in a variety of thicknesses. Basic pistol protective panels can be quite thin. However, thicker panels, ranging from one to several inches, may be necessary for those meant to withstand high-velocity rifle bullets.

Are composite ballistic panels lightweight and easy to handle?

Yes, composite ballistic panels are designed to be lightweight and easy to handle. They are lighter thanks to the use of specialized materials like Kevlar® and other lightweight fibers.

Can composite ballistic panels be used for both personal and military applications?

Yes, composite ballistic panels can be used for both personal and military applications. They are appropriate for use as personal body armor for members of the military, law enforcement, and security services, as protective gear. They are also useful for military use in warfare since they can withstand higher-velocity projectiles.

Do composite ballistic panels provide protection against multiple threats, such as bullets and shrapnel?

Yes, composite ballistic panels provide protection against multiple threats, including bullets and shrapnel. This is made possible by the materials used un their construction that effectively absorb and dissipate the energy of threats such as projectiles.

Are composite ballistic panels resistant to environmental conditions like moisture and UV exposure?

Yes, composite ballistic panels are designed to be resistant to environmental conditions like moisture and UV exposure. The specialized materials used in their construction are selected for their durability and ability to withstand harsh environments.

How are composite ballistic panels tested and certified for their protective capabilities?

Through standardized processes, composite ballistic panels are tested and certified for their level of protection. These involve putting the panels through impact and ballistic testing with projectiles of different calibers and velocity. Regulatory agencies certify panels that satisfy established performance criteria, ensuring they meet the necessary standards for protection and dependability

Are composite ballistic panels suitable for vehicle armor?

Yes, composite ballistic panels are suitable for vehicle armor. The panels' light weight and adaptability enable effective vehicle armoring without reducing the vehicle's mobility or performance.

Can composite ballistic panels be integrated into existing structures for enhanced security?

Yes, composite ballistic panels can be integrated into existing structures to enhance security. Because of their adaptable design, these panels can be retrofitted into buildings, walls, and other constructions.

Are there different sizes and shapes available for composite ballistic panels?

Yes, composite ballistic panels come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Panels can be tailored to meet specific needs, offering adequate covering and protection. This size and shape versatility enables for optimal integration into a wide range of protective gear and structures.

What are the advantages of using composite ballistic panels over other materials?

There are various advantages of using composite ballistic panels over other materials. When compared to single-material alternatives, composite ballistic panels are lighter, more flexible, and offer enhanced ballistic resistance, making them a popular choice for a variety of protective applications.

Can composite ballistic panels be used in combination with other protective measures?

Yes, composite ballistic panels can be used in combination with other protective measures. Their adaptable nature allows them to be combined with other armor components, such as helmets and inserts, to give complete protection.

Are there any maintenance requirements for composite ballistic panels?

Yes, composite ballistic panels require maintenance. Regular inspections are required to look for signs of material wear, damage, or degradation. Cleaning should be done in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Proper storage away from direct sunlight and moisture is critical for maintaining the ballistic performance and longevity of the panels over time.

Can composite ballistic panels be custom-made for specific applications?

Yes, custom-made composite ballistic panels are available for certain purposes. You will have the option to customise panel shape, size, and protective capabilities to fit specific needs. This versatility guarantees that the panels fulfil the specific needs of various users, whether in personal protection, military, law enforcement, or civilian security environments.

How do I properly install composite ballistic panels for optimal protection?

Proper installation of composite ballistic panels for optimal protection involves following manufacturer guidelines. Panels must be firmly fixed using appropriate attachment methods to ensure complete coverage of sensitive areas. Following suggested procedures, which may include adjusting straps or fixtures, ensures that the panels are properly positioned and capable of providing good ballistic resistance.

Where can I purchase reliable and certified composite ballistic panels?

For reliable composite ballistic panels that will provide effective performance in critical situations, you can purchase them from Hard Shell, a trusted supplier of security and defense solutions.
